How we put this together: We read each vendor's official pricing and feature pages on 8 October 2026, using a full browser where prices only load with scripts, and compared how each tool captures Google AI Overviews (presence, citations, update speed), the other AI engines it covers, trials and entry prices. We haven't run paid subscriptions of the third-party tools for this article. Prices are in USD unless noted, and every price is as shown on that date.

Google’s AI Overviews now sit above the links you’ve spent years ranking for. The practical questions: which of your keywords trigger one, is your site among the sources it cites, and which competitors are cited instead?

That’s the job of an AI Overview tracker, also sold as an AI Overview tracking tool. There are two families:

  • Keyword-led trackers: rank trackers and SEO suites that flag AI Overviews on the keywords you already track, and usually show the cited URLs. Most of this page is these.
  • Prompt-led trackers: AI visibility tools that run a list of questions through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google on a schedule. The best AI visibility tools compares those, so this page only adds ZipTie and AccuRanker’s AccuLLM.

Three things to check before you compare prices:

  1. What counts as tracked. Some tools only flag that an AI Overview appears. Others list cited URLs, and a few (Advanced Web Ranking, Sistrix) show where in the box a source sits.
  2. How often it updates. Ahrefs’ Rank Tracker updates weekly on every plan. Most others update daily.
  3. How keywords are counted. Advanced Web Ranking’s dedicated AI Overview mode uses twice the keyword units of a standard check.

The tools

1. SEOButler AI Visibility Check: best free first look

SEOButler’s free check asks for a brand name, a website and, optionally, a topic. It searches a large index of recorded ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews answers (US, English) and shows where your brand is named, which answers cite your website, and which other brands and sources appear for the topic. You can open the answers behind each number.

No email is needed to run it. Verifying an email gets you a shareable, unbranded report and three brand checks a month.

What it isn’t: a live tracker. It searches previously recorded answers, so it can’t tell you whether an AI Overview appeared for one of your keywords this morning, and a zero means no matching records, not that Google never cites you.

Disclaimer: we own SEOButler (which is how we know it’s good).

2. Pace Generative: best if you want it improved, not just reported

Pace Generative is a done-for-you generative engine optimization (GEO) service, not a self-serve tracker. It tracks visibility across the major AI engines, then does the work to change it: content written to be cited in AI answers, plus schema markup. Reporting covers citations, share of voice and competitor comparisons. Its site names Google’s AI Overview among the engines it works on.

It’s sold as monthly packages, with pricing on request, and suits businesses that would rather have citations fixed than learn a dashboard.

Disclaimer: we own Pace Generative (which is how we know they’re good).

3. Semrush: best for AI Overview flags inside daily keyword tracking

Position Tracking shows which of your tracked keywords trigger an AI Overview and whether your domain is cited. Semrush’s help docs say a cited domain is recorded as a #1 position for the AI Overview feature, whatever its organic rank, so read it as “cited”, not “ranked first”. Data updates daily.

  • SEO plan: $139/mo ($117.33/mo billed annually) for 500 keywords tracked daily across 5 websites, with Position Tracking.
  • AI Visibility Toolkit: $99/mo per domain for 25 prompts tracked daily across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity.
  • SEO + AI Search bundles: from $199/mo.

Limit: the entry keyword cap is low for large sites.

4. Ahrefs: best for a free first look, then market-wide data

Rank Tracker monitors 19 SERP features, AI Overview among them, and Site Explorer can filter to keywords where your site is included in an AI Overview. The catch is speed: Ahrefs’ pricing page lists weekly updates in Rank Tracker on every plan. Lite is $129/mo for 750 tracked keywords.

For daily AI data you need Brand Radar, sold separately: AI Overviews and AI Mode come as one platform at $199/mo, and custom prompt packages start at $50/mo (2,500 checks, about 80 prompts daily on one platform).

Ahrefs also runs a free AI Overviews tracker with no signup. It’s a limited preview: mention counts, trends, top topics and the most-cited competing domains and pages.

5. SE Ranking: best budget all-rounder

SE Ranking’s AI Overviews tracker shows which keywords trigger an AI Overview, day-by-day position changes for you and competitors, the domains cited, grouped by type, and cached copies of past results.

  • Core: $129/mo ($103.20 billed annually) for 2,000 keywords and 100 AI prompts tracked daily.
  • AI Search add-on: $89/mo ($71.20 annual) adds 200 prompts and the AI Results Tracker across AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT.
  • Trial: 14 days, no card.

Core plus the add-on is $218/mo, or $174.40 billed annually.

6. Advanced Web Ranking: best for citation-position detail

AWR offers two ways to capture AI Overviews. Google Universal catches them in normal SERP checks but can miss source URLs. Google Search + AIO uses a dedicated method AWR says is more consistent, at twice the keyword units. AWR records presence, cited sources and brand mentions, and its AIO Citation Rank metric (in all plans) flags sources visible in the main box without clicking “Show more”.

Pro is $139/mo for 7,000 keywords with unlimited projects and users; annual billing saves 10%. Agency is $279/mo and adds Looker Studio and an API. There’s a free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Limit: the dedicated AIO mode halves your keyword budget.

7. Nightwatch: best for agencies that want one tool for rankings and AI

Nightwatch lists Google AI Overview and AI Mode alongside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity on every plan, next to a full rank tracker. Every plan has unlimited seats.

Starter is €99/mo (€79/mo billed yearly) for 500 keywords, 50 AI prompts tracked daily, 1,500 AI answers a month and 5 websites. Professional is €159/mo billed yearly and adds Looker Studio, white-label reports and API access. Trial: 14 days, no card.

Limit: prices show in euros only, and 50 prompts is a small AI set.

8. AccuRanker: best for large keyword sets with an AI Overview report

AccuRanker has a dedicated AI Overview page. It charts how many tracked keywords trigger an AI Overview (and how many include your domain), lists the URLs and domains cited most often, and shows the overview text per keyword. AccuRanker says AI Overview data updates every 24 hours.

Professional is $224/mo for 2,000 to 5,000 keywords; Expert is $764/mo for 10,000 to 25,000. Annual payment takes 10% off. AI answers beyond Google sit in a separate product, AccuLLM: LLM Lite is $206/mo for 100 prompts and one brand across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Limit: the most expensive per keyword here, and the pricing page doesn’t state a free trial.

9. Sistrix: best for cited URLs and box positions

Sistrix adds an AI Overview filter to its keyword tables. You can list keywords where an AI Overview appears and your domain is cited, see the cited URL and its position in the box, and read the generated text through the SERP Archive. Prompt Tracking covers AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews. Sistrix marks AI Check and Prompt Tracking as beta and says they’re free in all packages for now.

Start is €119/mo plus taxes, cancelable monthly (3 projects, 2,500 SERP updates and 9,300 prompt updates a month). Plus is €239/mo. Free trial available.

Limit: euro pricing, and quotas are counted in updates, not keywords.

10. Keyword.com: best low-cost entry

Keyword.com is a rank tracker with an AI Overview tracker built in. Its feature page says it shows which queries trigger an AI Overview and which of your URLs are cited. Google AI Overviews are included in Search Visibility and 360° Visibility, but not in the AI-only plan.

Search Visibility starts at $4/mo billed annually for 50 keywords (up to 500), with weekly or daily updates. 360° Visibility starts at $33/mo (billed annually) for 1,000 keywords and 15 AI credits. Trial: 14 days, no card.

Limit: entry plans are small, and Search Visibility covers Google only.

11. ZipTie: best for pay-per-check tracking

ZipTie prices by usage: about $0.01 per prompt, per engine, per check. It covers Google AI Overviews and AI Mode alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Bing AI Overview and Gemini, and an AI Overviews check also captures Google’s top-10 organic results at no extra cost. Seats, projects and competitors are never billed.

The Starter preset begins at $42.75/mo, and yearly billing takes 20% off the prompt price. API and MCP access is $10/mo. The 7-day trial gives 25 daily prompts on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Copilot, no card.

Limit: the bill moves with prompts and engines, so size your list first.

One more for enterprise teams: seoClarity’s Clarity ArcAI tracks nine engines, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, but it’s sold by quote. seoClarity’s Research & Content tier starts at $2,500/mo.

How to choose

  1. Start with what you already pay for. If you track keywords in Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking, use the AI Overview data there first.
  2. Match update speed to your reporting. Weekly data (Ahrefs’ Rank Tracker) is fine for monthly reports. For daily monitoring, pick a daily tracker or Ahrefs’ Brand Radar.
  3. Check what “cited” means. Tools count citations differently, so compare trends inside one tool.
  4. Run the free checks first. The SEOButler check and Ahrefs’ free tracker show whether you appear at all, and 14-day trials (SE Ranking, Nightwatch, Keyword.com) can test your keyword list.
  5. Decide who acts on the data. A tracker shows the gap. If nobody has time to close it, a done-for-you service such as Pace Generative may suit better, and the best AEO tools covers optimization.

FAQ

What is an AI Overview tracker?
It's a rank tracker or SEO tool that records, for each keyword you track, whether Google shows an AI Overview, which sources it cites and whether your site is one of them. Semrush, SE Ranking, Advanced Web Ranking and AccuRanker add this to normal keyword tracking. AI visibility tools work from a list of prompts instead of keywords.
Is there a free AI Overview tracker?
Yes, two. Ahrefs' free AI Overviews tracker needs no signup and gives a limited preview. The SEOButler AI Visibility Check is free and searches recorded ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews answers (US, English), but it isn't live tracking. Several paid tools also offer trials: SE Ranking, Nightwatch and Keyword.com for 14 days, ZipTie for 7.
What's the cheapest way to track AI Overviews?
On 8 October 2026, Keyword.com's Search Visibility plan started at $4/month billed annually for 50 keywords and listed Google AI Overviews as included. ZipTie started at $42.75/month on usage pricing. Among full SEO tools, SE Ranking Core was $129/month ($103.20 billed annually) and Nightwatch Starter was €99/month (€79 billed yearly).
Does a citation in an AI Overview count as a ranking?
Tools count it differently. Semrush's help docs say a cited domain is recorded as a #1 position for the AI Overview feature, whatever its organic rank. Advanced Web Ranking separates sources visible in the main box from those behind 'Show more'. Compare trends inside one tool rather than numbers across tools.
